Replacement Keel Winch

i pulled my winch out today and has suffered the effects of salt water...I think it is the original winch to the boat (hull 6850) it is a red fulton 560. So looking at the CD catalogue, it appears the replacement winches are Dutton-Lainson. Can anyone who has purchased a replacement winch recently confirm the manufacturer and model number?

I was looking at Amazon and I see one with a brake rated at 1200 lbs for 1/2 that of CD.

i found the right winch - Fulton K1051. The winch handle is too long though, but you can also buy the correct handle - 7" in think. You can find the winch online for $90 to about $150. I am heading to Fisheries Supply where it lists for $114 plus I get a 25% discount.

UPDATE just ordered the winch, $83.27 with my discount. And I already have a new 8" handle to use that is on my trailer. I will just swap them.

I bought one on eBay for 45$. Just search brake winch. 1000 lb Dutton Lainson.

Be darned sure you are using a self-braking winch. If you are having problems matching the one that came out, it could possibly be because it is not the correct part for the boat. It has happened that owners have installed boat trailer winches instead of self-braking winches for the keel. A problem occurs if the ratchet fails. The handle spins quickly enough to break hands and fingers, and if the keel falls fast enough it can take out fiberglass when it hits its stop. A proper self-braking winch has no ratchet pawl and will make no ratcheting sound when it is used, it will stop in any position when the operator stops winding, and it will operate instantly in either direction direction without manually flipped a ratchet pawl.

I saw a pretty good price on Amazon on the Fulton 1000... Academy sports has the short handle in two different lenghts if you have one close.
