Looking for recommendations on a replacement head(manual) for a 1981 Catalina 27. I did the rebuild several years ago, but it's time for a new one, and since I'm replacing bulkheads, access is currently good to the area. I have read that the current Jabsco units are not built with the quality of the old ones, hence my need for a recommendation.

Thanks.

Irony abounds!
:soapbox:
After discovering that the early-80's Jabsco (aka Par/Brydon) head in our prior boat was one of the worst-engineered items in the known universe... I shudder to consider how the current ones are even worse!

I have not installed a Vacuum head, even though the owners seem enthused about them, but do have 15 years experience with the Raritan PH2, and it is very trouble-free.

Having ranted about the Jabsco, I am certain that ten happy users will instantly weigh in with votes in favor, too...

Happy (manual) pumping.

Your best choice is a Raritan PHC

It's a compact PH II...same pump, but on a compact base and with a shorter handle to fit in a tighter space. It's been the top rated manual toilet for more than 20 years. It's even available as "conversion" that will let you recycle your existing bowl, seat a lid. Check it out here: Raritan PHC and here: sbo.com PHII PHC LBA

Actually the Brydon Boy was a very good manual toilet...just prob'ly completely worn out (everything has a lifespan) or destroyed by bad maintenance, or lack of any, by the time you got it .

Thanks for the recommendation, I'm going to look into using my existing bowl/seat/lid, as they are in pretty good shape, and maybe just get the pump assembly. I have to take some measurements and get some model numbers off the one I have, and then I'll call Raritan to see if the PHC will work, or a PHII pump.

I already know what you have...

It's a Jabsco manual...the only thing Catalina has ever used. The PHC will fit the space , and the bowl will fit the base.
But if you don't want to take my word for it, the dimensions are on the Raritan website.

However, the conversion is NOT just the pump...it's the complete lower base assembly---pump AND base. So you'll have remove your toilet completely--all toilets are mounted with lag bolts, so no nuts, just back 'em out...and you'll have a drill a new hole or two and fill a couple. Set it down and bolt it down (also lag bolts, put your bowl on it...enjoy.
