Replacement Gooseneck fitting

Hello members; This is Bob3508, I'm new here.I do not own a Vega, although I think very highly of them. I’m currently in need of some help, advice, … or both.

 

I have an older ‘Albin Vega 27’  Selden Spar and Boom.
The mast is of the simple OVAL configuration, approx.. 3.75" x 5.75" … There are no
identifying numbers anywhere on the mast (or boom) as claimed by information found on the Selden web-site..

 

Here's my problem: I decided to remove the original ‘Boom roller furling’
assembly that I have never used … due to loss of sail shape … I much prefer the tried and trusted ‘slab-reefing’ system … I have gone ahead and removed that part, closing off the hole in the mast with a welded patch. I now need a new Gooseneck assembly to attach to the
mast in its place ... preferably one that will allow me to attach the boom using
the original boom end fitting with the 0.75 x 0.75 s.s.block ... I thought I would have found one in Selden's Parts dept. 

 

Can anyone suggest anything that might be readily available or,
provide some advice on a design before I go looking for a machine shop to have
something custom made?

I thought this was going to be easy but, I’m even having problems getting someone interested in helping me find what I need; so any help you
can provide would be very much appreciated.  FYI the mast will be installed on a new full keeled, Cutter rigged 24 ft. pocket ocean cruiser of 8500 lb displacement, and is the only "secondhand" part to be installed on this new vessel ... it was that good. (there's a bit of a story regarding how I came to buy it that I might share another time.    Other than the roller boom feature, the mast is in excellent condition. I've removed all fittings and attachments from the mast and welded up a few miscellaneous holes. It will be going next week to a local Powder Coating specialist. He has already done the new longer spreaders required for my boat ... they look awesome.  In making this conversion, I have the original Standing Rigging, Spreaders and the Turnbuckles for sale if anyone is interested. These parts are all in excellent condition,  Fair winds ... Bob T.

You can probably find some kind of boom bracket that will mount to the mast:http://www.seldenmast.com/en/products/Booms/boom_brackets.htmlMaybe try tracing the mast section and emailing to Selden or one of their distributors like Annapolis Performance Sailing and ask their opinion.Rig-Rite.com may be able to give you advice as well.Might have to have a different boom end fitting made though.Good luck.Tim   From: "bobtaylor3508@... You say that is a Selden mast. The early Vegas had a Proctor mast. Are you sure that it's a Seldon?

Thanks for your comment, all I can tell you is it has Selden labels on it and the head box is certainly of the Selden design. ... Bob T.

Hello Tim, and thanks for your comments. I did contact Selden USA who advised using a Selden Universal bracket part # 508 237 12 They further suggested I contact my local Canadian distributor to obtain one. I followed their advice but was told by this long time distributor (who is obviously well informed on the Selden product line), that this part was way too big for the Vega spar. So I'm now back to square one and at the point of having something custom made. It kind of bothers me when representatives of a product disagree with each other . . . One does not know who to believe.
