I may need to replace the Simpson-Lawrence manual head (model SL400) on my Contessa 32. The SL400 has a fairly small footprint, and I'm wondering if there is a suitable replacement with the same footprint.

There are several that should fit

That is, as long you don't expect an identical match for the footprint/mounting bolt holes....'cuz even newer versions of the same make/model aren't likely to match, much less any other brand. The best choice, and the only one of the same quality as your S-L for under $500, is the Raritan PH II or the compact version of it, the PHC (same pump on a smaller base)...with proper lubrication annually and a rebuild about every 5 years, it should last at least 20 years. Price is about $200. Cheaper, far less durable, are the Raritan Cricket, Raritan Compact, the Wilcox Head Mate, Groco HF...and at the bottom of the food chain, the Jabsco manual. Prices range from $99 on sale for the Jabsco to about $160. Average lifespan 5-9 years. All of the above should fit your space.
