R12 and the EPA
As a HVAC tech, you cannot charge it yourself, take note that the last time i checked it was about $900.00 for 30#, going rate to customer was around $60.00 a pound. there are other replacements for R12, you will need to talk to a tech for what is used in your application. Some do not require that the oil be removed, they neutralize it with additives. No matter what, make sure you pull a good vacuam on it and HOLD it for at least 15 minuits. If you have a good tech, he will make sure that the job is clean and well done. Then you should get years of use from it. Make sure you keep the coils clean and the cooling fan as well. I have been out of the service side for a few years and new stuff comes out all the time. Here is one tip, never worry about offending a service man to leave for any reason, he is working for you, if you dont think he is taking good care of the work area tell him to stop. As a general rule I always tell my men that if you or your truck and tools look sloppy, your work will too. Its your boat, he is there for you, want a differant tech, tell him so and call for another.Did i just go off on a rant or what.sry
