Help! The plastic sheave in the base of my Z-Spar mast is jammed/broken. This is the sheave on the starboard side of the mast base casting that turns the main halyard through 180 degrees. If you have to pull up on the main halyard to raise the mainsail, you have the same setup I have. I can't raise my main halyard any more without a great deal of swearing and cursing (very disconcerting for the children), and reefing is now a royal pain. Any ideas as to where I can find a replacement? If I can't find one, I will have to cut a slot in the mast so the halyard can exit (and then I will be pulling down to raise the halyard, like normal people). Any help will be appreciated. I have a spare...

Hi Peter, I have a spare that I can send you- I got it from US Spars when I purchased my new mast base casting. All I need is your address... you can send it to me via E-mail (jonbastien@yahoo.com), and I'll try to get it in the mail next Monday. Replacement is pretty straight-forward; use a punch to remove the old sheave pin (place the punch on the end of the pin that has the 'teeth' in the end of it...), replace the broken sheave, and put the pin back in. Also, check the sheave at the top pf the mast, as well- They tend to go at the same time. Should ease the tension and swearing aboard... --Jon Bastien H23 '2 Sheets to the Wind'

nooooooooo problem

US Spars (down your way) has been very helpful to me in replacing these sheaves. I've replaced them top and bottom. I think they were only $3 each and once they sent one to me at no charge to replace a broken one. Just email to: juliancrisp@usspars.com
