Not true...
The "no discharge" crowd regularly does its best to discourage people from installing treatment devices by claiming they'll sooon be illegal. There are NO plans to "update" or change any federal regulations. A Bill was introduced in the US House of Representatives several years ago to change them, but it proposed to do just the opposite: reduce the allowable bacteria count from Type I and II MSDs from the current level of 1000/100 ml to <10/100 ml and make it legal to use treatment devices that met that new standard (the Lectra/San would) even in "no discharge" waters. Unfortunately, the tree-huggers defeated it while it was still in committee. What's prob'ly spiked this new rumor about new boats is Raritan's new version of the Lectra/San they've named the Electro Scan--read all about it here: http://www.raritaneng.com/products/waste_treatment/index.htmlIt does, in effect, "replace" the Lectra/San as their new state of the art Type I treatment device...so yes, it does mean that the Lectra/San is no longer "state of the art"--the new Electro Scan is now. But it does NOT make the Lectra/San illegal...it's just the new state of the art version of it, and therefore what boat builders who offer treatment devices as an option on new boats will have. If they still have Lectra/Sans in stock, they'll continue to offer it till they use up that inventory, then switch to the new Electro Scan. And, owners can still buy and install a Lectra/San until retailers run out of their inventory too.The machinations of rumor mills never ceases to amaze me...if there were any plans to change federal law to make treatment devices illegal, do you think Raritan would have invested R&D money into their new Electro Scan?
