THE END?
You must have a tremendous number of hours on that engine, 15,000 or so, for it to be nearing the end of its life. I have a '94 OC400 with the Perky M-50. I use the boat a lot, and only have about 1800 hours on it. The engine itself has been pretty reliable, but the ancilliary parts have been somewhat delicate, and costly. A starter solenoid was 200 bucks, a water injection nozzle was unavailable so I had one fabricated from SS, for 150, the injection lift pump failed, 200, but that was due to the shoddy installation of the Racor system. The Perkins filter began to leak at its seam, which caused the Racor installation by the PO, and the ignition switch, 140, and the temperature sending unit, 65, needed replacing. The boat is out of the water now and I'm looking at replacing ALL the thru-hulls.
