I have a 4-108 Westerbeke engine in my 1977 Pearson 365. This engine starts right up and runs good, but it burns oil and it leaks. The engine has 2700 hr. and uses about a quart of oil for every 6 hrs of motoring. It cost about $5000 to rebuild or $7500 to replace with a Westerbeke 44B. The concern with a new engine is the way it fit and how it will work with the Walter V-Drive and Paragon transmission. I would like to hear from owners of 365 who re-powered and the type of the engine they used and the amount of trouble that they encountered. Thanks for any feedback.

Westerbeke / Perkins 4-108

They are the same block and head marinized by different companies. They have slightly different heat exchangers, manifolds and sea water pumps but they will all fit on the same mounts and bell housing/transmission. Here on the east coast Hansen Marine (in Mass) stocks all the parts and helps with tech advice. They have a web site and a toll free phone number. Use the link below.
