Looking at replacing the dogs on the Gray (cabin) Ports - port and starboard - on our H22. Mine is the older version, and I need to buy the knob with the stud and stainless pin. Have any of you done this? And if so how did you remove the pin which holds the stud in place? It looks as if you can push (knock) it out with a small punch, but thought I would see if any of you have tried this before I break the hell out of something.

Thanx in advance.

Are you sure? I think I replaced my knobs several years ago. I do not think you need to replace the studs. Mine had the metal insert. I used some vice grips to remove the insert and put on the new x nut.

Call the folks at SBO and see what they have to say.

I suggest that you press the pins out with a pair of channel locks and a dowel pin rather than trying to "knock" them out with a hammer and drift punch. The impact loading from hammering on a drift will almost certainly break something.

Also, you may have to use a needle file to dress the threads on the stainless studs before the old knobs can be removed. But once the pin is removed it is easy enough to put the stud in a vise, clean up the threads, remove the old knob and install a new one.

New replacement knobs (w/ brass inserts) can be ordered (in packs of 10) from AmazonSupply. Here's a link: http://bit.ly/FourProngKnob

On my Hunter 25.5 I used these knobs (dogs) on the portlights and on the forward hatch.
