Bimini Replacement

We are waiting for a new Bimini from North Sails. Their price was about $2300 with telescoping front legs(to allow folding up the forward Bimini w/o interference with the traveler on its arch. The quote includes a cover to protect the folded Bimini from the elements. This price was about half of that quoted by another smaller name Annapolis area canvas maker (without the telescoping legs forward.) The lessons here are three: 1) Big name outfits don't necessarily mean big prices, and 2)Shop around. (North Sails Annapolis price may not be the same as another North Sails outfit). 3)Recommend you get your order in ASAP. Biminis are not the big ticket items that sails are, and therefore not high-priority filled orders (launch season is approaching with the speed of light.) We have had an order in for 4 months now.

Thanks. Just spoke with a "small" Annapolis area canvas maker and wasn't really confortable with all they were saying. Am checking with AmeriSeam and will get in touch with North Sails. Thanks again.

if you are around the middle chesapeake

On the Eastern Shore, just outside of Rock Hall, MD is a small canvas shop. Don Farmer of Farmer canvas. Nice work at a good price. If this is close to your location, it will be worth the trip. Don does Dodgers, Biminis and seat cushions.

Farmer canvas

Thank you Ian. I'm in Baltimore. You boat is beautiful. I assume Don Farmer did the canvas. Looks like I need to get to Roak Hall. Ed

Use the old pattern

Many canvasmakers keep the patterns of biminis that they have previously made. It cuts the labor and cost. If you like the style of the one you are replacing, they can use that as a pattern. Or they often can customize a dodger/bimini for you. Ask them the questions.

Ship's Tailor

Shop in Deltaville VA does great work, charged me $330. I simply sent the old one as a template and they made a new one.

'nother place to get a price

We got a bimini two years ago for our H35. It covers almost the entire cockpit, has a window to look at mast, zippers for the split backstay, and a boot. Made of Sunbella supported by stainless 1" tubing. Costs about $1500 complete. CoverLoft in Annapolis/Eastport.

Sailrite

Sailrite has complete biminis or parts. I think you can pretty much select what you want whether its a frame, or a complete set-up. If it were up to us, we'd use the old bimini as a pattern to figure out what we need, then we'd go out to eBay to buy the correct amount of Sunbrella in the color we want. Then we'd sew it up ourselves. http://www.sailrite.com
