I need help three years ago I restored my catalina 22, 99%. The only thing i did not replace was the keel pin and hanger. i inspected them both and thay were fine no major movement back & forth. But after a few hurricaines i feel there is a little more movement and all the build up of our little friends barnicals. My main Question is how hard is it to normaly to remove the keel hanger bolts and pivot pin with out doing any damage to the bolt holes in the boat. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks John

Mine was pretty much left on the trailer

when i bought it. How long it really sat since the last time anyone had messed witht the bolts is beside me. When I did a redo on the keel, I feel I was pretty lucky after hearing of some others that had a hard time with their bolts. I only had to scrape away the old paint so I could get a socket on them. Once the paint was gone around the bolts, they pretty much came right out. That's not to say I didn't have to grunt a little to get em out. All four came out without any damage to them or the thread part inside the boat. Your question makes it sound as though you leave the boat in the water for some time. I hope you are able to wrench out the bolts without a problem. Once you get them out it really isn't a major deal to replace the pivot pin. I bought a new one from Catalina Direct. Remember tho, that keel is a little over 500lbs, so be really really careful. Check out the archives, there is some really useful info on keel's in there.
