Just finished replacing the gear shifter cable on our P42. The old one broke due to fatigue where the cable stud threads into the clevis at the pedestal. Took me about three hours to remove the old cable and install the new. I was able to do the task without undoing the pedestal. Another skipper hired his done and it cost him just under $500. The P42 takes a nine foot Teleflex cable, which I ordered from WM at a cost of $54. This task was a cake walk compared to lubricating the engine kill switch cable. I highly recommend you check the cable for signs of wear and or fatigue. Terry S/V Belle-Vie
