Replace vent hose

I am getting the foul stench with flush problem and after doing some research and have decided to tackle the project of replacing the vent hose.

It seems to me to make sense to use permeation resistant sanitation hose for the vent, but I understand that it is often exhaust hose used? Is there any preferred hose? I would plan on using trident 101 or Raritan Sani Flex if needed for the install.

Thoughts?

Flush

Does it only smell when some one flushes.
If so it's more than the hose and look in search here in search forum for
more info.

I am suspecting that I have a partially blocked vent (obviously it vents!) but I believe the ventilation is insufficient to allow for aerobic bacteria to thrive...
That's a good start. A larger vent is always a good help. You might consider a search on "Odorlos" which has help us quite a bit. There also is great merit in plumbing your head intake to your sink drain if your arrangement allows (for the last flush of the day to clear the seawater out of your intake hose AND the bowl inlet holes).

AND buy Peggie's book! Always go to the source, it has great information.

Links INSIDE the link you mentioned has a LOT of great info.

Good luck.

Yes, the vent exhausts noxious fumes when it flushes.

I did search and read this recent thread: http://forums.sbo.sailboatowners.com/showthread.php?t=154773

Maybe...maybe not. The length, diameter and routing of the vent line has as much to do with whether or the not the tank can be maintained aerobicially--which is the ONLY way to PREVENT odor from being generated in the tank. Filters don't prevent odor from occurring, they only prevent the odors from offending those near, or in some cases anywhere up to 20 yards downwind of, the boat.

The type of hose used has no impact on odor out the vent, only on odor inside the boat from permeated hose.

If you'd like a bit more detailed help than is practical in a discussion forum in determining what's needed to cure the problems in your installation, you're welcome to email me.

You are aware, I assume, that those specific hoses are only available in larger sizes. Good hoses, the Raritan much easier to route.
