Has anyone replaced the turn buckles on their shrouds. You know. The ones that connect the shrouds to the U bolts on the rail. My yacht is now five years old and I figure now is the time to replace them but I am hoping to use barrel screws. Any thoughts welcome.

Rigging Screws (or roots..)

Mark, I sailed up & down your east coast. Along inside the reef, the Islands and spent near a year in Brisbane too. Great cruising. Take one off, tie off a halyard nearby to help support the mast in case of a heavy wake, peace of mind etc. Take it into a rig shop and talk to them about it. As a rule, the turnbuckles, or 'rig-screws' are the last to go, more likely the wire gets 'meat-hooks' or the swedges develop cracks. Has this yacht been raced and abused? Five years is not a long time for rigging. If not stressed it can go ten years, and I have seen many that are having zero problems after twenty years, but should be replaced at that age regardless.
