Rigging Screws (or roots..)
Mark, I sailed up & down your east coast. Along inside the reef, the Islands and spent near a year in Brisbane too.Great cruising.Take one off, tie off a halyard nearby to help support the mast in case of a heavy wake, peace of mind etc.Take it into a rig shop and talk to them about it. As a rule, the turnbuckles, or 'rig-screws' are the last to go, more likely the wire gets 'meat-hooks' or the swedges develop cracks.Has this yacht been raced and abused? Five years is not a long time for rigging. If not stressed it can go ten years, and I have seen many that are having zero problems after twenty years, but should be replaced at that age regardless.
