Has anyone had to replace the muffler on a Catalina 30, mine is leaking and want to know how to get old one out. I removed 4 screws and won't lift out is it secured in another manner!

If both hoses are off I would whack it a rubber mallet to break it loose from hull. Ours was mounted on a glassed in wood block.

Has your bilge been painted? If so You may need to score the seem with a knife.

Thanks for the quick reply, sounds like I just have to break it loose from existing mounting plate or board and as far as I know it's the original so should be able to work it out thanks again.

I am also interested in this thread since I have repaired mine several times. As an amendment to this thread, has anybody replaced the stock muffler with another brand. On the Catalina Direct site they indicate dire consequences if you use something other than the original setup. I would like to know if anybody else has used another brand on a boat equipped with the 25XP motor. If so what did you use? Soryy for the quasi hijack.

Vetus makes a good non-OEM muffler. CD's "warning" is nonsense. The 1 5/8" inlet and outlets are just fine with the Vetus. I couldn't link you directly to one of our C34 members who might have done it, but when we were looking for our boat, I saw a C34 who had done so. A muffler is a muffler, and the inlet and outlet hose sizes with a similar sized basin all do the same thing.

Here's what's in your muffler:

Thanks to kloudie from this board for the photos.

Fred, I took mine off today, Uneventful 15 minutes worth of work... however I had 7 screws not four as you stated.
Could you have missed some:
4 corners and the middle of 3 sides (no middle screw on aft side)
My Catalina is a 1994 C-30. It was leaking at seam around screws. I don't feel comfortable about repairing, I am going to replace the unit with a new one

How to repair a failing muffler on a C30

I recently repaired my AquaLift muffler on my 1980 C30. Its a strong alternative to buying a new one if you are up to the work.
