Can anyone supply me with a part number, or place where I can purchase and replace the black rubber gaskets on my 1979 Venture 21 sailboat? Windows are
about 4inches heigh and 32 inches long. This gasket holds in the plexiglass windows and is between the Fiberglass & the window. Thanks Tony

Don't have a part number, but if you go to glass/mirror installer, they have the stuff you need. Take in a small piece for a sample.

Thanks, I kind of thought that I would have to do this. Went to many places already & nothing in stock. Hardware, West Marine, etc.
Glass & Mirror shop sounds good!

You may be able to tape off the window and pump the frame full of silicone. It might work if you are careful and patient and do it in phases . I had the same problem and ended up glassing the window opening and installing new ports. Way too much work.

It is called glazing vinyl and you can look for a match on the C.R. Laurence website.

Between the plexiglass and the aluminum frame or the seal between the aluminum and the hull? If you search the archives here, I did a thread about the former, for the latter, use butyl tape. Pumping silicone into the gaps is a bad idea, my boat's p/o's ears were surely burning while I was cleaning the frames. Didn't hold up and was a b***h to remove.

Most of the water that comes in around the windows comes in between the window frame (the older boats had the aluminum frames) and the boat side. The factory seal dries up and shrinks. When you take the frames out to have the "glass" resealed, use rubberized weather stripping that has adhesive on one side and attach it to the frame. I got some at Home Depot that was about an inch wide and 3/16 to 1/4 thick.

Thanks for the C.R. Laurence website. I found something a bit closer to what I have.

CRL One-Piece Self-Sealing Universal Gasket for 1/8" Panel or 3/16" to 1/4" Glass

This may fit right over the 1/8" fiberglass shell and hold the 1/4" window in. I believe that I also have to run some kind of vinyl expansion tube on the inside, (just like if I where redoing a window screen).
Thanks again from everyone - lots of great info in this forum!

Tony, don't your windows have aluminum frames?? I wouldn't count on a gasket to hold the window in place, one good wave hit could cause a problem.

I guess your right about wave hits!
The windows just have this rubber gasket or grommet surrounding the glass and fiberglass.
Maybe the newer boats have the aluminum. This is a 1979. I'll see if can upload a picture on Friday. Maybe I should just have a glass specialist put in aluminum.
Thanks

Tony, the older boats (1979 & back) had the aluminum frames. The newer boats had the windows made larger than the opening and were then through bolted to the fiberglass. My guess is a PO of your boat did away with the frames, had new windows made to fit and used gaskets to hold em in. You can have new windows made, larger than the opening, and through bolt them like the newer models.

I have a problem with small amounts of rain water getting into my 2006 Mac 26m. I removed the screws retaining one of the side windows and applied some force to try to remove it. It didn't show any sign of moving. I gave up before I broke something. So now I'm wondering if there is a correct technique for removing a window?

I had some success today and removed the port deck window... This was also leaking.

It already appeared to be sealed with silicone gasket sealant.

So I cleaned off the old sealant & re-fitted it using black RTV sealant. So now all I have to do is wait till it rains ;) living in England I don't think that will be too long!

Easy way to remove glued in ports is with a piano string and two wood handles.

Just slip the wire under and saw back and forth.
