Replacing A Gasoline Fuel Tank
Bob Weed: If it was me I would follow Bob C's advise and have the tank cleaned. Rarely do you have to repalce a gas tank. A diesel tank is another matter. For guys with diesel tanks - If it was a diesel tank and it was over 12 years old, I'd repalce it especially if it develeoped a leak. Once they start to leak (they only last about 10 to 12 years - I know guys will say they have had thiers for 20 years but they are fugitives from the law of averages)it is all over but the crying because as fast as you patch one another one pos up elsewhere. Your best bet is to have one fabricated to exacltly match the old one especially the 4 attachment pad. You are working in such a tight space that every thing you can do to make the job easier is essential.I think I paid about $200 at a place in Newport Beach, CaAnother thing I left off was the filter on the pick up tube in the tank. It is notorious for picking up junk and clogging. It is unnecessay because your primary and secondary filters will pick up any residue.
