I recently purchased a 1984 , 31 foot Hunter sloop. In some relatively stong winds, the components of the 'Isomat' mast and boom, at the boom to mast connection came unattached and disappeared. I was able to locate replacement parts. This weekend I attempted to install the replacement parts ( i.e.the 1/2 platic balls and the S.S.clips ). I am very mechanically inclined and handy with almost all repairs,BUT I could not get the Gooseneck and Plastic Balls together. I tried every angle and idea that I had to get the Plastic balls and Gooseneck together to no avail. The only thing I didn't do was take the mainsail off of the boom and try to raise the boom vertically up against the mast. Has anyone had a similiar experience? Is there any printed installation instructions or information on how to get these Gooseneck components all sandwiched together?

Gooseneck repair

I have the same boat and I want to tell you that you that I was told that I was lucky to find the parts. YOu will have to take the foot of the sail off and have someone help you to raise the boom to almost verticle. I found it reassuring to either tape or rubber band the two halfs together (even if you got the included metal spring ring clip with your parts.) They are easy to loose overboard.

Parts available for Isomat.

Don: The parts for the Isomat Spars are available from Rig-rite and I believe that Seco has them too.

Thanks to Don Boccuti for the advice and help.

To Don Boccuti: Don thanks for taking the time to give me some advice on the repair of the gooseneck on my '84, 31 foot.I've got one more question if you don't mind. Do I understand correctly that I clip or tape the two half balls, in the right directional order to the gooseneck ring ( hoop ) on the mast, and raise the boom vertically? When I lower the boom into the top half ball it will allow the boom to swing horizonally and clip into the lower half ball? If I install the two snap ring clips, would it restrict the boom "parrot's beak" to engage into the half balls?

Where to get parts

Kenyon Isomat was last located in charlotte, NC. It was bought out by Z Spar which turned out to be a fiasco 5 years ago. Both are gone but Charleston Spar now located in the same facility in Charlotte, NC can help you as they are the ones who have the replacement parts as most of their parts are that of the old Kenyon Isomat. If they cannot help, then you are SOL. The phone number is 704-597-1502. I hope this will help you and in fact the folks there are old Kenyon Isomat people and are very friendly. Crazy Dave Condon
