Hunter 34 Clubfoot Creek, The Moorings
I recently purchased a Hunter 27 1979, right now it is located on a trailer at my shop in order to completly redo interior. My question is about the lead keel. Apparently while sitting on the hard at the marina, some of the paint/gelcoat/ barrier coat cracked off the lead (about 3 inch x 1.5 inch oval) also some cracks in the fillet where the keel joins the hull bottom, What is the best procedure for repair? Epoxy mixed with microballons? Also, does the lead have to be etched/treated before recovering? Thanks in advance, as this will be my biggest boat project thus far.

Stay tuned for more questions from the new guy.

Alan, It's possible you have a barrier coat on the keel but I would venture a guess and say it's just bottom paint, in which case I would just fair and paint with new bottom paint. As far as a fillet at the hull/keel joint, my 1980 does not have that. I wonder if a previous owner created it, do you have a picture of the hull/keel joint?
