Repair of a water tank that is molded into the hul

Ihave two water tanks that are molded into the hull that have started to leak - someplace. I believe I can find the leak through a couple of means (fill it up and let it settle and then see where the water stops and look from that point up - not difficult just time-consuming) but am curious how I can go about repairing the tanks themselves. Do you guys fiberglass over the break after cleaning and widening the opening to get a good seal, or is there something less "offensive" that can be sprayed or "puttied" on that will be flexible, non-toxic, and last almost as long?

Skip:What boat do you have? I just resealed the lid on my H'31.I removed the lid and cleaned the tank. Then I clean the lip (liner) and the lid.I put a couple of beads of silicone around the lip and placed a piece of Butyl Rubber around the lip. Then I placed a double double bead of silicone on the rubber and let it sit for about 1-2 hours. Then I placed the lid in place and set the four corner screws (loose) and one screw mid-way on each side and let it cure over night. The next day I replaced the remaining screws and cinched it down. I have not tried totally filling the tank yet, but plan on doing that this weekend.If you have cracks in the tank, I would think that either some fiberglass tape and resin over the crack would be a permanent fix. I would guess that it is more likely that you have a hose or fitting that is leaking then the actual tank.
