Repair cracked seam?

What looks like a seam running the length of the back side has split slightly along most of the rudder. I retrieved it out of storage with the intent of sanding, filling, and re-glassing the back, then sanding and repainting. However, after reading some of the previous postings, and taking into consideration I have never worked with fiberglass before, do you think this is wise? This sounds like a common problem. What's the best solution, short of replacement. Thanks in advance for your response.

Nick, It is best to sand/grind down the seam and glass over it. You should get some help from an experienced person. It is best to completely seal the rudder so as to prevent any water from getting inside. Good luck, let me know if I can be of further assistance. Sincerely, Al Walker Foss Foam
