Renault RCD8 Transmission

After a great sail across the Chesapeake to Crisfield MD this weekend, my normally reliable 8HP Renault suddenly "clunked", leaving me only reverse gear (providing a good laugh for the marina as I backed the last 200 yards to my slip). On checking back at the dock I found I had no neutral or forward, and that the transmission was out of oil. I kick myself for not checking the transmission fluid more regularly, as I only have myself to blame. While I hope that I can repair the transmission (my plan is to pull the engine/transmission next weekend and see how grim the damage is), I fear that getting replacement parts may be very difficult. Does anyone out there have any one or more of the following: 1) a Renault RCD8 transmission (new or used?) 2) a defunct Renault RCD8 Couch from a prior engine replacement that they would be willing to part with so I could get the parts? 3) a source for Renault transmission parts? (I think the place in TX went out of business, and I don't know where to look...) 4) a used engine that would fit? While the Renault is often maligned for being underpowered (it is) and hard to get parts for (my big concern right now), mine has been incredibly reliable and simple to maintain. I am fortunate enough to have the full mechanic's manual for the engine (in French and English, no less) so at least I will be able to disassemble it; I only dread what I will find. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Dan Bryant

Renault parts

Renault marine parts are no longer available in the US. Most people fabricate or improvise what they need, or find used thru Ebay or word of mouth. The last resort is to repower, usualy a Yanmar 1GM10. Pat McCartin Inland Marine Diesel Buford, GA imd_ga@hotmail.com
