Speaking of renaming boats......anyone like to share the details of their own personal Boat renaming ceremonies?? I have just read the article in SAIL April about having a virgin pee in the bilge.........Anyone else??? champagne over the bow?? Head stands on the bow pulpit on a 30k blow??.how about in a bosuns chair?? We are christening our boat soon and would love to hear how the rituals fly! Rob

Pussers Rum

We placed a bottle of Pussers Rum on the bow. Every well wisher was instructed to go to the bow and toast the new boat and her owners with a swig of Pussers. We did not have any re-naming ceremonies because we kept the old name... Congrats... Jeff

It was easy...

I scraped the old name off and applied the new one. Oh yeah...I was drinking a beer at the time. Cheers, Bob

Renaming - Use Vigor's

Rob The distinct advantage of John Vigor's renaming ceremony is that you get to have TWO parties!! Stu

Renaming horror story

Whatever you do, make sure you find a ceremony that has some"credibility." I renamed my Hunter 26 after I bought her a few years ago. the next day, I slipped gong down the companionway and cracked my head on the fiberglass lip. Ended up with a concussion and stitches. A few months later, My wife and I were unstepping the mast, adn the guy gave way, whacked my wife, knocked her over the side and onto the pavement, then shattered the base of the spar. I've since sold her, and bought a Hunter 356.And yes, she was new to avoid the renaming issue:)

We used John Vigor's with huge success

Very important. See the link below for our ceremony. You MUST NOT use cheap champagne - I think we really splurged and spent $9.95. ;>) Derek

Get lots of people...

and lots of Champagne. Neptune and his buddies love a party. We use Vigor's incantations and so far things are going well. Good luck Jeff

Here's what we used

We used the ceremony at the link shown below. It's fairly comprehensive and involves all the key elements ... appeasing the gods, blessings, consigning the old name to King Neptune, alcohol, etc. Seems to have worked for us since we've had only good luck with our boat thus far.

Boat De-Naming Ceremony

I have de-named and christened 2 boats in the last 5 years with great success. Vigor's Boat De-Naming Ceremony is the only proper way to please the wind and sea gods. Good Luck, Capn' Brent S/V Elena Lua
