I renamed mine...
...using the procedure at the link CBSailor recommended quite a while back. The boat was a used Hunter 23.5, previously owned by two women, and called NOMAN. (I thought that that had something to do with their lifestyle, until the dealer mentioned that they were both lawyers, so I surmised they probably had some affiliation with the National Assoc. of Matrimonial Attorneys Nationwide. Whatever.) Anyway, the price was right, though the name was not. It all worked out well, great ceremony, good champaigne, etc. and BON TEMPS did well for over five years until I replaced her with my current 306 last year. My major issue, as I remember it, was the actual removal of the old name's vinyl lettering from both sides of the hull. A heat gun and patience (!), then a light abrasive and polishing the gelcoat to take off the outline of the old name finally worked OK - I used about 3-4 approaches found on various places on the web using acetone, dishwashing liquid, glass cleaner, though I don't remember what finally worked the best. Good luck, and don't worry, in my experience, renaming my boat didn't piss of the wind fairies too much.
