Oh yes!

Removed and replaced the port side about a year ago. It came off in little pieces. I had intended to replace any way so I had contacted Hunter before starting and got a new replacement with proper sealent for about $35-40. If you plan to replace, contact Hunter and order new as I don't think you can get the existing off without breaking if the existing is orginal (old). Delivery is about 2 weeks. Save ALL the pieces as they come off to reassemble for hole paterns. Good Luck - and this particular job kinda sucks! Greg H23 Faster-

replacing, plex, thanks Greg

Now you tell me, Really thank you Greg, I started to take it off, and thought no,I will write and see if maybe there is something some one knows that I dont, usually is, anyhow, apreciate the response, Two years ago I ordered pin or companionway boards from Hunter, the first set did not fit so I sent them back and got the secone set and they did not fit so I cut and planned them to fit, did the plex fit ok for you , was removing the old caulk the major suck park or was there something else I was going to do this one last thing before late launch guess it will wait, Thanks Mike

Perfect fit

Mike, Port was good fit. That's not to hard given the style of port it is. The caulk/sealer is the "suck" part. Removing the old is not fun, a lot of scraping. the new caulk is black and must be spread thick and even. This stuff will stain you, the deck and all your clothes. It does cover the cabin side under the port and that's important for appearence. Get the caulk tube from Hunter. As bad as it is, it's the stuff to use. Better you than me! Greg H23 Faster-

If I can add

I am a plastics fabricator and would suggest that if you get your new plex ports from Hunter reseal with either a polysulfide caulk or better yet use butyl tape. Butyl is easier and you can get it at auto parts stores or an auto glass shop.

replacing plex

Russ, are you saying to use the butyl tape in place ot the caulk that hunter, sells with the plex? also, I have a minute crack at one of the screws, from overtightening, as a temporary mend until I get the new ones would clear fingenail polish work <? if not is there something that would seal and blend , ? btw, i dug out the old, white outer caulk and got down to the black stuff, it is indeed a messy product, Mike

Caulk at bottom of window also

This might seem obvious, but be sure and caulk well at the bottom of the window. I had some new ones made by a local glass shop and used some black silicone caulking first. Then after that dried I went around the sides and top with clear silicone caulking. I didn't bother with the bottom of the window because I was only thinking of rain water getting in. A couple weeks ago I realized my mistake when we heeled so much that the window was partly under water and it leaked alot of water into the cabin. Of course the other lesson was to be more in control.

Not so difficult..

I replaced mine last year. Got it locally and had a perfect fit because I took the old one (in several pieces) to the shop for a copy. It looked like a large rubber gasket under the old one so I just left it and put the new one on. No Leaks. If I had known that "gasket" was amorphus sealant I probably would have worried and spent a fortune trying to get the right replacement sealant. Replaced the companion way hatch this year. It was about $40 less locally than from hunter. Geoff

I was lucky

My port window came off in one piece, all I had to do was remove the interior trim and clean, clean, clean. I used acetone to clean the hull, window and teak trim. I replaced the trim and window and masked out the hull and inside the window with blue masking tape. Thick layer of 5200, lightly install the screws, wait two days then carefully remove the tape and trim off excess sealant. After seven days the 5200 should be cured. Happy sailing. Crack "fix"

A crack can be stopped from progressing further by drilling a small hole at the end of the crack. The hole acts to spread (i.e. relieve) the stress so that the crack doen't spread. Some nailpolishes are Nylon, I don'r know how it would bond to plexi (acrylic). However, there are plexi (acrylic)cements at plastic suppliers, or you can dissolve some acrylic in acetone and use it as a cement or "filler". BOL
