Try looking in the forum archives for something called an eraser. From what I have heard, it is a wheel of eraser material that you chuck in a drill. Supposed to work very well. Good luck, Clayton s/v Walkabout Hunter 26.5
Use a heat gun - I have successfully used a heat gun to warm up the vinyl lettering and carefully using a single edged razor blade, lift the lettering off. Using any type of chemical to melt them off makes a big mess and you could end up staining your gel coat. Good luck.
