I have a Yanmar 3JH5E with a Kanzaki transmission and prop shaft.
Any suggestions on how to remove the transmission oil after a warmup?
The Jabsco manual and electric pumps do not get good reviews.
Does a turkey baster work?

turkey baster works, but is slow and messy...small hand pump will work but lacks the length to get to the bottom and does not hold much, the new ones are plastic and don't hold vacuum well, I have an old brass one, that will hold pressure for a bit.

I have a vacuum oil pump similar to this one from west marine, except mine holds 6 or 8 quarts (enough to do the engine and generator oil change in one container). I use it at home as well for car/truck/bike/mower and have yet to have a problem. Wish I would have gotten one sooner.

You "pump" up a vacuum and stick the hose/rod in to the reservoir and it sucks things out, I like this one as the hose is stiff enough to move it around things and get to sides and the bottom.

Some of the issue with reviews, is you never know WHO is doing the review. Others here will let you know what they use, but this type does well and is tough to spill and easy to clean up.

Get a Pela oil extractor (they are also available under some other names) - (no association). The 2000 is probably too small; the 6000 is small enough to be stored away and big enough for most of the work you will need. The 650 can be operated single handed. Consider getting an extra long suction tube; the one that comes standard with the 6000 is a wee bit too short e.g. to extract all of the oil from my Perkins M20.

The engine oil extraction systems work good. Mityvac, WM, Tempo all make similar units.
