turkey baster works, but is slow and messy...small hand pump will work but lacks the length to get to the bottom and does not hold much, the new ones are plastic and don't hold vacuum well, I have an old brass one, that will hold pressure for a bit.
I have a vacuum oil pump similar to this one from west marine, except mine holds 6 or 8 quarts (enough to do the engine and generator oil change in one container). I use it at home as well for car/truck/bike/mower and have yet to have a problem. Wish I would have gotten one sooner.
You "pump" up a vacuum and stick the hose/rod in to the reservoir and it sucks things out, I like this one as the hose is stiff enough to move it around things and get to sides and the bottom.
Some of the issue with reviews, is you never know WHO is doing the review. Others here will let you know what they use, but this type does well and is tough to spill and easy to clean up.
