We didn't want this to happen, but it looks like we have a fuel tank leak in our 1982 Hunter 27. Damn. Anyway, has anyone ever experienced removing the fuel tank? We're trying to figure out the least intrusive way to do this (if that's possible). Any insight or tips would be greatly appreciated. Tom Hrkach

Tank removal

Unless they changed location and or size from '79 to '82 there is no problem. Is your tank in the starboard cockpit locker and 12 gal.? It's a tight fit but will come out the settee hatch.Had mine out to steam clean when i installed the 2GM yanmar.

Tank Location

Carl, Thanks for the tip. But our (14 Gallon Florida Marine Tanks) tank is directly behind the engine (a 1GM)in the center of the boat. Which puts it directly in front of the steering pedestal. We're going to check for size and space to see if we can avoid any major fiberglass cuts (like the cockpit floorboard!).

Temporary fix

To enjoy the season, order a bladder tank from West Marine and leave it atop the old tank.
