We are the happy new owners of a 1984 Beneteau First 42. She looks to be a great boat but has one small draw back. Some very tired looking teak decks. Now we have a done a teak deck job on our previous boat (a Tayana 37) and I am not excited about doing another one. I am wondering if the teak on the First42 was an option and was overlayed on top of a perfectly good non-skid gelcoated deck? Any knowledge on this? The tayana we ended up with Treadmaster which was great non-skid (like velcro!) but didn't hold up to uv damage over time. So now we are pondering the possibility of the thiokol bedding of this teak perhaps not being as hard to get rid of (with some kind of solvent) and maybe discovering a gelcoat that can be repaired with patience and care.
