Someone left a tin can sitting in the galley and it left a rust mark. Any one got an idea as to how I can get rid of it? It appears to have permanently marred the finish of the fiber glass.ThanksH
Hayden:The first thing that I would try is CLR. You can find this at most stores (grocery, K-mart etc). I know that it does a great job on Calcium. You should try a spot on your gelcoat.
There is a product on the market called Wink, that I have used to get rust stains out of a number of things. Should be available at your grocer, and it comes in a brown bottle.Good luck.
Oxalic acid (see West Marine) and a little water to make a paste will remove it like magic. Also Iron OUT from Home Depo for water softners will do the same thing. Never leave home without it. I have been using both for years without any problems on the GRP surface. For those cruising the ICW, it will remove the moustache as fast as it is applied. Frank
You might try one of 2 choices. #1 ZUD, bathroom cleaner, available at the grocery store, does a great job of cleaning rust in the kitchen and bathroom. or #2 you might try oxalic acid or wood bleach. this works great on lake scum even the dried on kind.
