I'd like to remove my WAECO 120 Coolmatic refrigerator but I don't see how it is secured to the boat. Any suggestions for removal?

Thanks,

I shouldn't reply without a concrete answer, but your posting reminds me of my moronic dealer trying to remove my fridge (trying to prove to me that it has an AC adapter located on the back....which it doesn't). After an hour he gave up.

Anything I've seen written about the fridge removal indicates that there may be a little cutting of teak trim involved in the removal process. Great, huh?

I just googled using:
"remove fridge on catalina 309" and it popped up my original post about the fridge on sailnet.com. You'll find a posting there by someone who talks about how he had to saw a bit of trim away at the lower left of the fridge, and remove the drawer assembly underneath. No details, otherwise.

Catalina ought to have a little shame over the both the fridge and the way it is installed. They've had a lot of problems with the Waeco, leading to a lot of people having to figure out how to remove the stupid thing.

By the way, why are you removing yours?

As to why I want to remove the fridge, we keep the boat on a mooring and typically anchor or use moorings when cruising so I don't want to run the battery down using the fridge and I plan to replace the space with additional storage.

Thanks for the reply.

Joe -
My fridge had to be removed for repair a couple of years ago (and now needs it again!). As stated by others here, you have to saw out a small piece of teak trim on the bottom left of the fridge. After you remove the drawer and its frame underneath the unit, you'll be able to access several bolts that secure the unit from from its bottom. The piece of teak you remove is not really noticeable and doesn't need to be replaced.

Thanks John. I did pull out the draw and saw some screw heads but wasn't sure what they supported. I'll give it another try later this week.
