Hello All
I need to do some repairs so I will need to remove my refrigerator evaporator from my Danfoss compressor for about a month. I know i will loose all the fluid and I need to keep everything clean however are there any special concerns with leaving the lines open and just tightly taped over to keep contaminates out? I don't have threaded plugs and I don't necessarily want to pay some one to come down just to plug them

Thanks
Frank

There are mandatory requirements for recovery of refrigerant. I don't know about California, but there are Federal issues that are described. For example:

https://www.epa.gov/section608/stationary-refrigeration-service-practice-requirements

Appliances with Five or Fewer Pounds of Refrigerant (Small Appliances)
Technicians repairing small appliances, such as household refrigerators, window air conditioners, and water coolers, must recover:

  • 80 percent of the refrigerant when
    • The technician uses recovery or recycling equipment manufactured before November 15, 1993, or
    • The compressor in the appliance is not functional.
  • 90 percent of the refrigerant when
    • The technician uses recovery or recycling equipment manufactured after November 15, 1993, and
    • The compressor in the appliance is functional.
To ensure that they are recovering the correct level of refrigerant, technicians must use the recovery equipment according to the directions of its manufacturer.

Technicians may also satisfy recovery requirements by evacuating the small appliance to four inches of mercury vacuum.

There are some exceptions, but....
