The bolts holding the pedistal to the cockpit sole are loose and apparantly causing a leak in the aft stateroom. I'm having a difficult time turning the Philips head bolt. Due to the liner inside, it is not possible to see the nuts on the underside. Does anyone know if the bolts have nuts or a threaded plate to hold the fastners? Any clues on removing the bolts?

Wait, Bob..!..

Bob, before you try too much with the pedestal bolts, take off the access panel undet the helmsman seat and rebed the wiring harness and the screws for the panel itself. 90 to one, that is where the water is getting in. If you have a pedestal canvas cover, it should be near impossible to get in through there. Rick D.

One other thing..

..I also had the pedestal bolts come loose and they snugged up just fine with a large 3/8 socket phillips fitting for a 3/8 ratchet. I also put a small bead of silicone around the housing, but I am reasonably sure that had nothing to do with any leak. RD

Walkthru Cover Plate

In addition to what Rick said, if there is a cover plate (over the quadrant) in the transom walkthru this a another potential leak generator. Actually, it's the screws that can cause the problem and provide a water pathway.
