Removing old paint

I’m looking for some advice on painting my boat.

The top layer of black paint is peeling off and under it there is another layer of paint also starting to peel.

Under both layers of paint I’m seeing a darker surface. And I’m wondering what it is? Any suggestions?

Is that another layer of paint? Or is it a discolored gel coat?

Firstly… Welcome to the SBO Forums.

With a painted hull it is anybodies guess what you will find. To paint over the hull you will need to get down to an even, solid, base layer so that the hull is smooth and all imperfections are removed Then follow the paint manufacturers recommendations for prep and paint applications.

I have posted on here several times, a recipe for homemade peel away …for less than 30 bucks you can make this stuff …roll it all over …let it dry and pressure wash off all the old paint easy Peezy. Do a forum search and you’ll find The recipe.
