I have a Merriman pedestal and wheel. Apparently Merriman is out of business now. Does anymone know how to remove the wheel? I undid the nut on the front and the wheel doesnt budge. It appears there is a retaining clip on the back, does this have to be removed as well? Thanks.

It's made to slide right off

I took my off to install the auto pilot. First I would have someone pull aft on the wheel while I hit the retaining shaft with a soft mallet or block of wood. Next try a gear puller. Last try heat but you want to avoid dis-coloring the stainless wheel. Barry s/v PER DIEM too

Removalble

I agree with Barry. Only the front nut needs to be removed. Ours comes right off. Some lubrication or never seize compound when reinstalling would solve the problem for the next removal.

Don't lose the Key

We remove our wheel all the time when anchored or at dock. Just remember that when you pull the wheel off there is a small metal block (key) that fits into a groove on the shaft and matches to a groove in the wheel. Sometimes it will stay on the shaft when you remove the wheel but may become dislodged and fall out. We make a point of removing the key and placing it in a small container in the nav station. It would be a real problem if it were lost. Scott. 83-H34 Island Hops
