Since I have stopped using the wire luff Schaefer furler on my 192 and gone to a hank on jib, I have no need of the mast mounted winch. In fact, I think that winch location is right where I want to mount my swiveling cam cleat to use for my asym halyard.
Has anyone removed that winch? If so, how did you do it?
I suspect that somehow, I remove the drum, exposing mounting bolts. I've heard of winches with circlips holding the drum on, or sometimes a hex bolt down inside the handle hole. I have not observed mine thoroughly, but even my cursory examinations haven't revealed either fastening method.
I need to get going on this, because I really need to fly that chute! (There's a horn cleat above the gooseneck position for the spin halyard. Let me tell you how inconvenient that is during a solo takedown…)
