Removing Lexan from Fixed Window

Hi All - I have managed to remove the fixed window frame from my '84 H31 only to discover the Lexan piece is sealed within a plastic frame. Has anyone with this vintage boat encountered the same and any ideas for removing without destroying the frame? I doubt a replacement frame is available from Hunter. It appears that the corners have plastic glued/sealed pieces and the frame has a hard plastic white lip similar to glazing on interior (see photos attached)

All help is greatly appreciated.

Jerry

That is different. I am in the middle of restoring a 1983 Hunter 31, and mine are in aluminum frames (leaking badly). Where are yours leaking? Is a source visible?

You can check out the rest of my restoration at The Stargazer Adventure

The early 31's and 34's had metal framed windows frames. These were later replaced by the vinyl units. I think that this happened in sometime around '84.

I might look into cutting out the old lexan around the perimeter. Once you have that out you may be able to put new lexan on the exterior of the frame.

Or cut out one of the ends just enough to slide to old lexan out (not the entire end of the frame just the pocket the lexan sits in) and then slide the new one in.

Either way you will need to keep the old frames or find a window manufacture to make you new ones that will fit.

Or you could go the route of filling in the space that's rotted out and finish it and mount new lexan on the exterior like some of the newer boats.

Just some things to think about.

Thanks to all for the poists. I was able to salvage the plastic frames, had a local glass company insert a new piece of lexan. As a FYI to other H31 owners, replacement plastic frames can be obtained from Mark Plastics in Coronodo, Ca (951) 735 7705. Since I was able to salvage mine, I didn't have to go with a full replacement.
