First pump out and flush tank
My2000 has a plate on top with 5-6 screws
Remove all and lift unit out
I bet the float is fouled
Try to sled it up and down and see if vague moves

My old 290 was hard to remove and did get it out after removing screws and sealer but still did not work good.
My H-36 has stainless sender and have cleaned it and dealer replaced when it was new and still show's un accurate.
have heard good things about a new one that the sender sticks on sides of tank
and need new gauge $$$$.
I just look in one of my rear stern compartments and can see holding tank level
and not spending any more $$$$.

Why can't you remove the sender from the tank? Is it lack of access or is it because the screws are difficult to remove?
Thanks for response. Screws removed OK. Sender contained within approximately 3" plastic tube. I can pull tube to top of tank but cannot remove it from tank. Tube seems to have a flange or ther stop device on bottom of tube that prevents removal. Pulling and twisting to no avail.
