Remove Bottom Paint Permanently?

I just bought an H240 with lousy old bottom paint and have a choice to remove and replace it, or remove and buy a lift for the boat. Is there any hazard to removing bottom paint and not replacing it? Is the hull prepped in any way prior to applying bottom paint that would affect it if bare?
