I have a 1990, 26’ swing keel McGregor with a 9.9 long shaft Johnson outboard. The motor is mounted on a adjustable transom outboard of the boats motor well. I have been looking for a kit/parts to put a remote shift mechanism on the side of the motor well so that I can control the shifting with out having to lean back and down when I am maneuvering in a harbor. I have looked in previous threads and I haven’t found an answer that would seem to work on my boat. Can anyone make a recommendation?

If you want it done right what you want to look for is something like this:

Pricey, and made to fit specific models and years. I would call a dealer who carry’s parts for Johnson/Evinrude/OMC/BRP to make sure you get the right one and any other parts necessary.

a broader google search for Johnson remote control for your year and model will likely give a variety of manufacturer solutions and diy versions.

The remote throttle controls will also control forward, neutral and reverse. They appear to be somewhat universal for the OMC/Evinrude/Johnson motors. Mine is at least ten years older than my motor. Many salvage yards, abandoned boats, craigslist and ebay will have them available. It's a very worthwhile investment not only for convenience, but for safety as it keeps your eyes on the water
