Folks, I am buying a 2005 Honda 9.9 for my 2005 H260 - I'm getting remote controls and am wondering where is the best place to mount the unit. I have wheel steering. I've seen photos of my boat and there's a lever on the starboard side of the pedestal that would be the throttle on a boat with an inboard diesel. Can this lever be used? I was told that this boat was on display at Sea World and was outfitted for a Mercury engine. Perhaps Mercs use the built-in pedestal controls?

David, I have a Merc 9.9 with the pedestal controls. The lever on the photo is indeed the throttle. There is another lever between the wheel and the pedestal that moves up and down, for forward and reverse. I could not tell from the photo but I would have to assume that it is present on your boat. As far as different brand engines, I am not sure whether they use different cables or not, but you probably can look on Edson's website (they are the manufacturer of the pedestal and wheel)and get an idea. www.edsonmarine.com

honda and edson

Edson makes several different control systems. I believe the honda will need the system with the matching transmission control that goes on the port side of the pedestal. (check the edson web site) It has to do how the linkage in the transmission operates...push or pull to engage reverse. You will want a wheel brake which I suggest you install last. I recommend placing the ignition/oil light panel and remote tilt controls on the aft end of the starboard bench where you can see them while driving. Mine were placed on the side of the pilot seat, so I couldnt easily check the idiot lights. The Honda is very nice, smooth and quiet, but they dont start up as easily as their lawn mowers. Kevin

difference of engines

Hoda builds two different styles. One is a tiller and the other with remote controls on the box. If it uses 3300 series cables, then you can run the cables to the pedestal but you have to purchase the one without tiller but remote control only. I would then suggest getting the EZ steer so the motor can turn with the rudder as you will have no tiller for the remote version.
