I had mine setup on the C27 until I switched to Tohatsu. I have the original control from when it.was an inboard. I bought the brackets and conectors from Anchor Marine in Reseda, Ca.

My mercury has one, came that way with my old boat. It's an older motor. I wish I had the tiller, or at the very least a better place to mount it. Right now I mounted it on the aft on the port side by the motor well by my right hip when I am sitting at the tiller. My problem is the forward position, the handle hits the bracket that holds the mast stand. I can't open it up beyond about 70%. I have to revisit how I have this mounted.

When I bought the boat it had an outboard with a tiller handle and was a pull start. When it died I bought a Yamaha 9.9 used and it had remote controls, no tiller handle. Wasn't sure how it was going to work out or how I would connect it all, but the price was right. I mounted the controls just forward of the lazarette on the starboard side. That worked out well because I normally sit on the lazaette. I can control the motor with my right hand and use my left hand on the tiller. The cables for the throttle are run through the lazarette. They are just flexible enough to do that. Far easier to control the forward/reverse and speed that when it was on the tiller handle of the motor. The only awkward piece is that in tight spaces where you need to turn both the rudder and motor for a tight turn, you don't have the tiller handle on the motor to use, you have to reach back and use the small handle on the motor itself.

I never tried sitting on the laz cover. I might give that a try. I like your set up

I find sitting on the lazarette works well (as long as you have a stern rail). I have a folding cushion that I sit on and it also cushions me against the railing. I have the remote mic for my VHF wired to the cockpit and it is mounted on the support rail for the bimini at ear level.

I like the controls you have and Ruth...

... likes to sit there also while docking or anchoring to run the controls. It wouldn't be too hard for you to ....

.... rig a tiller handle to the motor...

....I did it a little different on ....

...the Honda we started with...

It also isn't too hard to make some thing to link the two tillers together...

...that goes on or off in a few seconds and really simplifies steering in tight quarters...
