Does anyone have any suggestions on how to cut a remote control engine shut off wire so that it is neat.

Mine is so boogered up that I cant get it in the very small hole it must go into at the engine. And everything have tried for cutting it clean has just made it worse. :cussing:

Short of buying a new cable, is there anything I can do?

Thanks,

4" angle grinder with cut off wheel or a Dremel with the metal cutting disc. The cables are hardened and you will NOT cut them with wire cutters. Slide the inner cable up into the wire housing then cut to length. Takes about 30 seconds.. Just did one last week...

Excellent, Maine.. The other way I've worked this is to clean (acetone and fine sandpaper) the bogered end about 2" back and get to a place where the cable is good again.. usually about a half inch or so back from the bitter end be careful to not unravel any more of the cable.. .. then using a pistol type soldering gun, "tin" the cable carefully where you want to cut it.. Then cut it through at the outer end of the tinning .. it will stay nice and neat .. if you do it at pretty high temperature, there will be no increase in diameter.. (old trick that works on bicycle cables too)

Maine,

Great suggestion. I tried it today. I did not have much wire to work with before it would be too short. I used a Dremel Cut off tool and before I knew it wahlah, I had a working engine cut off.

I am back in the water, have a alligned engnie, a motor that cranks at a moment's notice, and a nice smooth sailing vessel.

I was the happiest captain alive. The admiral was pretty impressed as well.

Thanks a bunch.
