I am remodeling the interior of my hunter 23' I want to remove the bulkhead that seperates the V-berth from the rest of the cabin. Does anyone know if this will compromise structural integrity and/or support for the mast?

V-Berth/Salon Separation

The post amidships in the cabin is structural - it is the compression post supporting the mast. The plywood from the post to the starboard side can be removed. Somewhere in the archives is a picture where this was done to let more light and air into the v berth. I was planning on doing the same during my restoration this Spring, but the new finish on the wood turned out so nice I didn't have the heart to cut it away. Removing this divider obviously decreases privacy to the v berth and portapotty, but could be offset with a curtain.

Different model

Just noticed you are asking about a H25 - my remarks were relevant to a 23 and may not apply. Sorry - haven't had my coffee yet.

I wouldn't do it

I'm not actually familiar with the H32 but I wouldn't do it. The bulkhead supports the deck and could compromise the integrity. Also it will devalue the boat for resale.

Hey Mark

Just to clear up the record for future archive searches - which Hunter does your question pertain to? It's posted with the 25s but your text says 23.
