Doing the same thing on my Beneteau 38. Old fridge/freezer was top loading, covers for 2 cu.ft. freezer and 6 cu.ft. fridge are in turn covered by the fold-down chart table. I wanted a drawer and in particular the new Isotherm 160 with freezer and icemaker. Not enough room for that so I'm going with DR65 with freezer.
Took the hardware and then the large (fridge) box to accommodate the DR65. I left the freezer side box in place as an icebox for extra fridge space.
I took the box out from the inside. Using a small circular saw, I cut larger box out, leaving only the rim and common side wall for the icebox, cut a hole for the DR65, installed the DR65, put rubber sealer on the rim left on the old fridge box, and thus left access for the DR65. Also, since there are the 2 covers, a 2-in. space and then the chart table, the 2-in space now serves as storage for paper charts. Works great. Hope this helps.
