try and replace the mixing elbow on the later models with the 4JHE. I just went through the archives and found the subject but no "real answer. I have worked with a YANMAR dealer here in Honolulu and the best we can surmise is that Hunter used an older exhaust system and adapted (jury-rigged) it to the new 4 cyl. engines. The mixing elbow is either from a YANMAR 2GM or 3GM, I just bet $200.00 ( parts plus shipping) that it is a 3GM mixing elbow. I'm not sure (nor the dealer) on how Hunter adapted the exhaust manifold to the elbow - have to be very careful whth the disassembly of the old unit to save parts. Will let you know if the elbow from the 3GM works (and what adapters you will need) next week. Living in Hawaii is great until you need marine parts, shipping sometimes is more expensive than the parts. Charlie Kalaukia

Charlie,

Most of the Yanmar exhaust i've seen are galvanized plumbing parts from Home Depot. The elbow is special, the others shouldn't be. check it out Pat McCartin

Exhaust elbow

Don't know for a fact but would think 2GM and 3GM elbows simular. The problem you will find is that on engine side there is a stainless steel adapter with right hand threads on one end and left hand on other.Don't remember which end is which but think left hand is elbow.Do remember that they really wanted to stay married to each other!Yanmar mech. that took mine apart with 6'[!]pipe wrench said 50-50 chance of saving manifold adapter.Mine worked, hope yours does if it is same.
