Remedy for Poor Compression

Gordon recently said easy starts is a good check for compression. My question then is should I be considering an overhaul or head gasket replacement to cure hard starting ? OR continute to use a short spray of eyher ? Yanmar model SVE8.Thanks_Bill H

The fuel injection timing is extremely critical, especially when starting. If the ether hasn't cracked the pistons yet, you may improve your lot by having the timing checked and possibly adjusted. If that is not the answer, a compression check should be made to confirm the low compression before you resort to drastic measures.
